I have been hairdressing now for 24 years,and the most common complaint that we have is that the client does not get what they actually want from their hairdressers.
Step one, be realistic with what you want. This is a comb, not a magic wand.There are certain things we can do, and there are certain things we can not do.
Be aware of your hair and what you actually want, before you start. If you do not know what you do want,think about what you do not want. This will give you a far more realistic idea of choices that you have for you and your hair.
Now, the second thing for getting what you want from your hairdresser is to use images. It is very difficult for you to describe haircuts and techniques in an accurate enough form for your hairdresser to actually understand, what you would like by bringing in pictures of areas of hair that you like, for example, it might just be a fringe section, it might be the length, it might be the texture or the color. This will give a clear understanding to the hairdresser of what you would like them to do to your hair.
My third tip for getting what you want from your hairdresser, is if you cannot find an image and you do not have a very strong clear understanding of what you do want, tell them exactly what you do not want. We all know what we do not want with our hair, so it is far easier to convey that than to try and put across an idea that you have difficulty in actually saying. - My final tip for getting what you want, is to listen, is to also accept and to be realistic about what the hairdresser can do for you.
Being very honest about your hair helps solve a lot of the problems and your hairdresser, being honest with you with what you can or can not have. These are the basics for getting what you want from your hairdresser. .
